ADVANCE FRAMING AND GUIDANCE IN SETTING UP YOUR OWN PICTURE FRAMING BUSINESS

The morning session of this course will be dedicated to practical picture framing skills where you will choose 4 specific subjects to cover. The afternoon session will be centered around business skills allowing you to look at setting up your own picture framing business. Topics such as equipment, planning your workshop, sales, pricing, suppliers, administration and insurance will be covered …plus, of course, a few trade secrets!

There will be a maximum of 4 students per instructor.

NB: it is strongly recommended that you complete Module 2 Advanced Picture Framing before attending this course.

Topics covered:

Health and safety in the workshop is compulsory and therefore not an optional choice.

Introduction to computerised mount cutting
Introduction to specialist glass types and acrylics
Using a vertical glass cutter
Solving moulding cutting and joining issues
Working with Polymer mouldings
Using a pneumatic under pinner
Commercial conservation framing of garments such as sports shirts, wedding dresses
Introduction into gold/silver leafing
Framing large 3D items such as musical instruments, sports memorabilia
Various types of sub frame extenders and uses
Commercial canvas / fabric stretching
Commercial Dry-Mounting (pressure sensitive /heat)
Using security fittings
Float/tray frames
Working in natural wood, staining/waxing finishing
Bevel wrapped deep mounts (French bound)
Making bespoke paper wrapped Mouldings
Working with internal frame spacers
Cutting and joining aluminium mouldings
Maintenance of equipment
Maintenance of equipment
